Haringey Migrant Support Centre (HMSC)

Haringey Migrant Support Centre’s mission

HMSC’s mission is to support migrants in London to be able to live a happy, safe, and dignified life. The charity has three core aims, which are:

  • Improve migrants’ legal position and material circumstances.
  • Improve migrants’ wellbeing by centring the dignity of the individual in all its work and by building a strong community offering collective care and supporting collective action.
  • Mobilise frontline expertise and the community to influence positive change in practice, policy, legislation, and social attitudes on migration.

How will the donation be used?

This donation will contribute towards the costs of running the charity’s Immigration Casework Team over the next 12 months. This highly specialist team, including Immigration Advice Authority-regulated immigration advisors, will provide free, detailed immigration advice, advocacy and casework to help destitute migrants from across London resolve any immigration issues they are facing.

What impact is the donation expected to have?

This donation is expected to support around 400 people in London with irregular or insecure immigration status, which puts them at high risk of poverty, destitution, and homelessness.

Some of the expected outcomes for people who receive support through this project include:

  • Improved understanding of their immigration situation.
  • Support to move towards regularisation of immigration status or extension of leave to remain.
  • Increased access to rights, security and stability.
  • Increased access to housing, financial support, education, healthcare, etc.
  • Improved mental health and general wellbeing.

“HMSC is very grateful to IMCF for supporting our Immigration Casework Service. In challenging times for migrants in our communities, marked by a hostile policy environment, rising destitution, and reduced access to legal aid and statutory services, this funding will be instrumental in enabling us to provide specialist, person-centred support helping our visitors to access rights and justice.”

Haringey Migrant Support Centre

“I nominated HMSC because a friend works there and has spoken passionately about the difficulties faced by migrants, refugees and asylum seekers, and the fantastic work that HMSC does providing both free holistic support and legal advice to visitors, who come to the Centre from across London. HMSC’s work is only going to become more significant with the escalating challenges which people are facing.”
