Beatson Cancer Charity
Beatson Cancer Charity’s mission
Beatson Cancer Charity supports people affected by cancer, every step of the way – from the hospital ward to the heart of the communities it serves.
The charity provides a range of services, as well as fund specialist posts, research and education programmes to invest in a better future for cancer patients and their families.
How will the donation be used?
This donation will support the delivery of the charity’s Specialist Health and Work Service (SHAWS), which helps working‑age people affected by cancer across the west of Scotland to overcome health and workplace barriers to returning to, remaining in, or retiring well from employment.
This includes one-to-one practical help and supported self‑management around employment rights, return‑to‑work planning, reasonable adjustments, goal setting, confidence and motivation, stress management, and financial planning.
Support also includes group workshops on common challenges such as communication, routines, workplace stress and life after cancer, offering vital peer support to share and normalise lived experiences.
Employer engagement sessions build understanding of legal duties and how to better support employees, while benefits advice helps patients and carers maximise income through benefits, grants and blue badges.
What impact is the donation expected to have?
The donation is expected to benefit around 200 working-age people affected by cancer across the west of Scotland.
Expected measurable outcomes are:
- Improved ability to communicate their needs in the workplace
- Increased knowledge of their employment rights
- Improved ability to make decisions around their workplace
“We are absolutely delighted to receive a Regional Impact Grant from the IMCF. This generous award will support our Specialist and Work Service, which provides expert guidance to people affected by cancer to help them manage their health alongside their working lives. The service supports individuals to stay in work, return after a period of absence, consider new opportunities or plan for retirement. It makes a real and lasting difference, and thanks to the IMCF’s generosity, this vital service can continue to thrive.”
Pauline Evans Philanthropy Manager, Beatson

“The Beatson is a truly special charity helping people living with cancer in the West of Scotland. I have seen first-hand the sensitive and grounded service which they provide to patients, making all the difference to them and their families in trying times. Their work with young adults is truly commendable.”
